Los circuit breakers y las bandas LULD son el sistema de seguridad del mercado americano. Fueron creados después del Flash Crash de 2010 para evitar que pánico momentáneo destruya valor en segundos. Circuit Breakers de Mercado General (Nivel de Índice)
Estos se aplican al mercado completo cuando el S&P 500 cae significativamente desde el cierre anterior:

LULD: El Circuit Breaker Individual

Qué Pasa Durante una Pausa LULD
- Precio toca el límite superior o inferior → pausa automática de 5 minutos
- Durante los 5 minutos: se acepta solo órdenes limit para la subasta de reapertura
- Al final de los 5 minutos: subasta determina el precio de reapertura
- Si la subasta no produce precio dentro de la banda: puede extenderse otros 5 minutos
Oportunidades en los Halts LULD
Para small cap traders, los halts LULD frecuentes en un stock pueden ser señales operables:
- Stock sube hasta el límite LULD varias veces consecutivas: momentum extreme — cada reapertura puede continuar el movimiento
- Stock baja hasta el límite LULD: potencial washout y rebote en la reapertura
- Halts muy frecuentes (3+ en un día): extrema volatilidad, reduce position size drásticamente

LULD: The Individual Stock Circuit Breaker
LULD (Limit Up-Limit Down) applies to each stock individually. When a stock moves too fast, it pauses for 5 minutes for a reopening auction.

What Happens During a LULD Pause
- Price hits upper or lower limit → automatic 5-minute pause
- During 5 minutes: only limit orders accepted for reopening auction
- End of 5 minutes: auction determines reopening price
- If auction doesn't produce price within the band: may extend another 5 minutes
Trading Opportunities Around LULD Halts
- Stock repeatedly hits upper LULD limit: extreme momentum — each reopening may continue the move
- Stock hits lower LULD limit: potential washout and bounce at reopening
- Very frequent halts (3+ in one day): extreme volatility, reduce position size dramatically
